Weekend Hockey Games

Aiden is #14 in the black jersey.  This was his first squirt game.

Go AJ!!

Liam (#15 Black) is fast and scrappy albeit half the size of some PeeWee players

We had six hockey games over the weekend between Friday and Sunday.  While John and I didn't make all of them, one of us was able to attend each of them since the times overlapped quite a bit.  I didn't get any pictures from Luke's games, but managed to get a few from friends at Liam and Aiden's games.

Liam is on a PeeWee B1 team and typically plays left wing, though he has played a few games at defense.  Its amazing the difference in size at the PeeWee level where you have kids between the ages of 11 and 13.  Liam's team is relatively small with several first year PeeWee kids in sixth grade.  When they play kids primarily in 7th grade, it is tough because the boys are bigger and stronger (maybe not always faster, thankfully).
Aiden had his first squirt game on Sunday and played very well.  Ironically, Aiden is on Squirt B1 Black which is the same team that Liam was on last season.  We even have a few of the same players that Liam played with last year which is pretty awesome.  As I told a few of the other moms after the game on Sunday, Aiden is not Liam.  Aiden is aggressive, rough, and not afraid to get in the mix of things.  He had TWO penalties and went to the box twice in his first game.  He wasn't overly aggressive, but he is definitely not afraid to use his body.  Liam, on the other hand, would rather beat most people down the ice than be overly aggressive on the puck.

Aiden played defense in his first game and loves that position.  He had a great time and is excited about the next game.  Unfortunately, we lost the first game 4-3 against the other B1 team in our association.  It was a very evenly balanced game against several of our good friends so it was fun to watch, but hopefully we come out ahead next time.

Mite One Hockey for Finn

Finn began his first hockey season!

Finn is a Mite One Maverick

Getting ready to go!

His number #91 (He picked #9 after Luke's first number and #1 because that's Luke's number now)

Getting ready to go on the ice

Crazy Hair Day at school

Aiden and Finn both wanted half green and half blue hair
Finn began his first season of hockey recently and he loves it!  He knows so much about the game, the various positions, goalies, shooting, stick handling, etc....after having been a spectator of his older brothers for the past six years!  He definitely seems to know what he's doing out there.

He is excited to be playing on the Maverick's Mite One team.  He knows a couple kids on the team so that makes it fun.  He is by far the tallest kid on the ice every time he steps out there, but that isn't too surprising since Finn is basically the size of a second grader!  His one goal is to learn to stop this season.  He's pretty good at skating and can even stick handle a little, but he doesn't really know how to stop yet.  It will take some practice, but I am sure he will be stopping soon.  He picked the #91 because he loves Luke and wants to do everything Luke does.  The #9 is after Luke's very first hockey number when he began in Mite 2 hockey and the #1 is Luke's current number and has been his number for the last 3 seasons.  Go Finn!  We are excited to watch you grow and learn this season!

Happy Halloween 2019

Sumo and Police man

Luke and Liam were headed down the street to a party and we met up with them later

Walking among the dinosaurs
Happy Halloween!  We had a very nice Halloween this year.  The weather was chilly, but thankfully we didn't have snow and it was not raining.  Liam and several of his buddies all decided to be dinosaurs like the Jurassic Park movie.  It was hilarious to watch them waddle from house to house and fall over trying to run and step on each other's tails.  They were much slower than normal so it was easier for us to keep up with them.  Aiden dressed up as a Sumo wrestler and Finn as a police man.  Luke came up with his costume on his own and decided to be the Monopoly man.  Very creative and characteristic of Luke since he loves to play board games.

Last weekend, we went to Rochester for Luke's first hockey tournament.  They did decent for their first tournament against some phenomenal competition.  We start our regular season games this weekend.  John spent the entire weekend in Rochester with Luke and his team, but the rest of us drove down on Saturday afternoon and got to see the final two games.  Aiden finished hockey tryouts around noon last Saturday and ended up on a Squirt B1 team which is an awesome achievement for him.  He's one of only a few first year kids to make either an A team or B1 team (the rest are on teams slightly below that) so it will be a challenging yet fun year for Aiden.  He is very ready for the change and the challenge to play more competitive travel hockey.  We likely won't be doing much other than hockey until March or April so buckle in.....12 travel tournaments with half of them overlapping on dates and roughly 100 district games among the three travel teams.  Finn will have a few smaller half ice games beginning in January and we have practice for at least 1-3 of the boys each night.  Here we go!
